Workshop
In our workshop, we use traditional techniques rooted in historical craftsmanship. Whenever we have the opportunity to work from an original stove tile, we make a plaster mould directly from it. We then press a hand-rolled slab of clay into the mould to create a faithful replica.
Sometimes we also create moulds using an older method, carving the design in negative directly into blocks of limestone or marble.
We do not use slip casting or casting methods to mass-produce identical tiles. Each piece is individually made by hand: a slab of clay is rolled out, carefully pressed into the mould, removed and finished by hand. The tile is then hand-glazed and fired in the kiln. As a result, every piece retains the subtle individual characteristics of traditional handmade ceramics.
In addition to historical stove tiles, we occasionally create other ceramic pieces, often for historical reenactment groups.
At historical events, workshops and medieval tournaments, we also offer a more playful part of our work: miniature ceramic tiles featuring designs inspired by historical stove tiles and well-known medieval and Renaissance iconography.
